I was among the 10 new trainees to join the program on Monday, March 8.
8 March 2010, Monday
I learned how to conduct and plan an effective meeting. The trainers, Miss Iris and Miss Suzi was a wonderful pair, for they kept us entertained (read: awake) throughout the day, while teaching us all the important details of a meeting, and that meetings could be fun and effective, if planned perfectly.

I also learned how to construct an effective cover letter and resume the correct way. The trainers, Miss Farah and Miss Liza were two ladies who I believe, know what they are doing. The way they explained everything was very easy to understand, and easy to follow. We were grouped together in 7 or 8, and we had to discuss many things, among which include how to make up an effective resume, and how to leave a very good impression with our potential employers with a good, customized cover letter. It was a very enlightening session. I was glad I learned many things from the session, among which was that having a 4-page resume is not necessarily a very wise idea.

We also had a session with those two very capable trainers, focusing on Business Writing. I learned that there are 2 general ways to write a business letter that are followed by the working people daily. A business letter has to be concise, clear and conversational. The trainers, Miss Tara and Miss Sofia were very fun and funky! They managed to keep us interested the whole day with their individual dynamic personality.

We got ourselves scared silly with Public Speaking Techniques during the second half of the day. Mr Farizal was the trainer, and he carries himself very well, and he speaks VERY WELL. I wonder if I can ever be as good as him, or at least, half as good. Such a long way to go, but he did say that becoming a good speaker does not happen over night. Or two weeks. Or two months. It takes a loooong time to perfect your skills, but it is possible. He did comment that I had a 'very good voice projection' after my group acted out a press conference on 'Awareness of Biodiversity in Malaysia'. That was a good motivation to improve myself!

We had a special session with Professor Patricia Green from Babson College, US in the morning. She covered everything under the sun that has anything to do with being an entrepreneur. Well, the basic ones were covered, anyway. A very wonderful speaker, she knows her stuffs. Of course, she has been teaching entrepreneurship to people from all walks of life for well over 20 years! She shared a very, very awesome video with the class that was made by one of her students that went to start an organization that empowers entrepreneurs, Grasshoppper (catchy name, don't you think?). Watch the following video, and say you do not feel the least bit, well, inspired, to do something :)
In the afternoon, we had another session with Miss Liza and Miss Farah, where we discussed on advanced report writing. It was a good session.
